Current Officers


President - Wendy Henshaw, CP, NCCP

Wendy received her B.S. in Zoology from The University of Wisconsin -- Madison in 1993.  In 1997 she received her Paralegal Certificate from the American Institute for Paralegal Studies.  She is a Certified Paralegal through both the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) and The North Carolina State Bar.  Wendy is currently employed with Coats & Bennett, PLLC as a paralegal in the patent group.  Wendy worked as a patent and dispute resolution paralegal at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and as a patent paralegal at Alston & Bird LLP.  She currently is a member of the Paralegal Division of the N.C. Bar Association, NALA, and has been a member of the Research Triangle Paralegal Association (RTPA) since 2006.  Wendy's past positions in RTPA include Vice President and Chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee.  This is her second year serving as an officer but her first year serving as President.


Vice President - Betty-Lou Medlin, CP, NCCP

Betty-Lou received her B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1993.  In 1997 she received her Paralegal Certificate from the American Institute for Paralegal Studies.  She is a Certified Paralegal through both the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) and the North Carolina State Bar.  Betty-Lou has been working in the intellectual property law field since 2003 with Myers Bigel Sibley & Sajovec, P.A. as a patent paralegal.  She is currently a member of the Paralegal Division of the N.C. Bar Association, NALA, and has been a member of the Research Triangle Paralegal Association (RTPA) since 2005.  Betty-Lou previously served as the Secretary and Chair of the Community Service Committee.  This is her second year serving as an officer but her first year serving as Vice-President.

Treasurer - Kirsten Carlos, CLA, NCCP

Kirsten received her B.A. in Journalism from Indiana University in 1993.  She then completed the Meredith College Paralegal Program in 2004 and became both a NALA certified paralegal and a North Carolina State Bar Certified Paralegal in 2006.  Kirsten has been working in the intellectual property law field since 2007 with Myers Bigel Sibley & Sajovec, P.A.  Kirsten currently is a member of the Paralegal Division of the N.C. Bar Association and has been a member of the Research Triangle Paralegal Association since 2007.  Kirsten previously served as President and Chair of the Media/Public Relations Committee. 
This is her second year serving as an officer but her first year serving as Treasurer.
